Power Word: BECAUSE
A powerful way to influence others is to use one of the Power Words: BECAUSE.
When we are asking for something, angling for a decision, even requesting a favour, we are more likely to be persuasive if we supply a reason (even if that reason doesn’t make 100% sense). Please get me a flat white BECAUSE I really need one.
Gaining commitment example:
We’ve been talking about starting this project for a few months, and because it’s the new year and because your team will always be just as busy as they are now, it makes sense to make a decision one way or the other, doesn’t it?
Leadership example:
As we’ve flown in from all over the country and because we are finally in one room, we can get absolute clarity on where we are headed this year. The next few days will bring up many topics, and this is great because it means we can challenge assumptions and old ways of doing things, and create an even more empowered culture.
Hypnotic example:
You’ve just listened to a few examples and seen the words on the screen, so you can relax a little more and feel comfortable because listening and breathing and being comfortable builds more relaxation, doesn’t it? It doesn’t even matter if there are other sounds or distractions around because you are where you are now, still reading and or listening, so it’s easy to take the next breath in and relax even more because as you do, you’ll feel even more empowered to get out there and do whatever it takes to achieve great things, can’t you
What examples can you think of?
Learning how to use your language in any context is super powerful and especially when you are in sales. Sales training and even better sales coaching helps all learning get embedded so that it’s automatic when you need it most.
